The quick way: let the AI draft your template
The AI can turn your existing contract into a template for you, which saves most of the setup work.
Open the AI Assistant.
Drag your template or document into the chat as a Word (.docx) or PDF file.
Ask it to create a template, for example Create a template from this NDA.
After a few minutes, the template is ready, with dynamic fields, parties, party placeholders and signature blocks where they make sense. Check the result, adjust what you need in the editor, then continue with Step 5 to set it up and publish it. Drafting uses AI credits, depending on the length and complexity of the document. See Create and publish a template.
Or build it step by step
If you prefer to set everything up yourself, follow these steps.
Step 1: Import your Word file as a template
Go to Templates and click Create.
Drag in your document or template as a .docx file, start from scratch, or let AI start a draft.
Check the formatting in the editor and the preview. Tidy up numbering or spacing where needed.
Step 2: Add the parties
In the right-hand panel, add a party for your company (choose your internal party) and one for the other side with the reference "Partner".
Replace the names in the text with party placeholders, for example with search and replace. See Parties and signatories in templates.
Step 3: Add dynamic fields
Turn everything that changes per contract into a dynamic field, such as the purpose of the NDA or the term in years. Insert them from the right-hand panel or add them with the command menu (Ctrl/Cmd+P). See Dynamic fields: types, visibility, mandatory fields.
Step 4: Place the signature blocks
Drag a signature block for each party to the end of the document. If the same person always signs for your company, set them as the default signatory.
Step 5: Set up and publish
In the template settings, choose the document type (NDA), the signature type and the teams that may use the template.
Check the preview with sample values.
Click Publish.
Step 6: Create a document
Click Create, choose Document and select your NDA template.
Enter the other party's details and fill in the dynamic fields.
The document opens in Draft, ready to share or sign. See Send your first document for signature.
Good to know
Once the basics work, you can add optional clauses with conditions. See Conditions: show or hide content.
If publishing doesn't work, see A template can't be published.
